What do you do for fun? If you live near a city, or if you at least own a car or have some method of transportation, you most likely go out with your friends. To see the latest movie everyone is talking about, to go walk aimlessly around a mall, things of that sort. If you're like me though, and live in a small town and can't drive yet, you have to figure out other ways to stay sane.
The town I live in spans approximately two miles. The center of town, with a few family businesses, spans approximately two blocks. With no form of entertainment, no movie theater, no mall, no bowling alley, we find ourselves stuck finding other ways to enjoy ourselves. During the spring, summer, and fall, we usually walk around aimlessly, finding entertainment along the way. We usually end up at one of the town's three parks, pretending we're five years old and running around.
During the winter, we end up in a state of boredom, and are home writing blogs way too often. We would love to walk around when the air is at a comfortable eighteen degrees Fahrenheit, but we can't yet afford to pay those medical bills. The other day though, my friends and I found fun during December.
We attempted the walking-around-aimlessly thing, and found ourselves at a downhill road covered in a sheet of ice. Who ever said you needed ice skates to ice skate? Of course, I was too afraid of falling and cracking my skull to slide down that hill without holding onto a friend for dear life, but still, it was more fun that I had all winter.
At the end of the day, I was thinking. Who ever said you needed movies or the mall to have fun? Just like people can find joy in small things, people can also find fun in the strangest ways.
